By the year 2020, without change, Tampa Bay area road and highway traffic it is expected to cost 84 million driver hours at a cost of 1.4 billion dollars in wasted fuel. In the Sarasota area, the cost will increase from $78 million to $154 million dollars.

Increasing railroad freight traffic would reduce the number of trucks using local roads substantially and save millions of dollars in fuel alone.
